Day 239: Zombieland

I saw this one in the theater, looked too good to pass up.

Zombieland is about a survivor of the zombie apocalypse (played by Jesse Eisenberg) meeting up with another survivor (Woody Harrelson) and the two forming an uneasy partnership. Soon, they run into two girls (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin) who are looking for a safe haven at an amusement park on the west coast. The guys agree to get the girls there and many zombie encounters happen along the way.

Really, the draw for this movie is the sense of humor. There is a legendary cameo about halfway through when the survivors get to Hollywood that must be seen to be appreciated. If somehow you don't know who it is, I won't spoil it. The rules for surviving in a zombie world are clever and fun. There are some genuine moments of tension, especially towards the end, but this is a surprisingly tame zombie movie. While there aren't many human kills, there are a ton of creative zombie kills.

This is more of a "watch for fun" movie than a "watch for scares" but it is set firmly in the horror universe. Watch this after some Romero for a good pallet cleanser.
